Olga Kivius This is the 1st jazz album of this year which really has attracted my attention)
Long, variegated, sometimes groovy, sometimes soft & even free-improvised compositions, accompanied by absolutely the ideal large horn section (which is not so wild but wonderfully complicated and many-sided) take turns with small romantic miniatures with the leading piano, electric bass makes fusion & funk, 3 wonderful songs in different jazz styles (they are also unusually long) bring some fresh mood. Well-done! Favorite track: Twelve Stages Of Freedom.

a breath-taking musical roller-coaster of hard grooves and multiple sound textures, challenging the notion of jazz and contemporary improvisation – AustralianJazz.Net

The third in a series of critically acclaimed suites by composer/pianist Stu Hunter. Beginning with the muse (2007) and followed by the gathering (2010) - the migration lifts the roof off in it’s scope and intensity. Driving grooves and lush sonic landscapes form powerful scaffolds on which to drape rich harmonic complexity and deep emotive melodies.

The world is a seething melting pot like at no time before in it’s history. Ideas and cultural expressions race around the globe in an instant via the Internet. the migration is a response to modern life, love, family, cultural complexity and the blurring of cultural identity within the global diaspora. – performed by a world class ensemble featuring ten of Australia’s finest musicians.

Track Name: Twelve Stages Of Freedom
The 12 Stages Of Freedom
Music and Lyrics – Stu Hunter

In moments
Uncertainty flows throughout the garden
Truth in a perfect lie cracks the dawn
Shaking the faithful canon

This garden is no Eden

leave by the pearly gate
Drops in the ocean
Wash away the sin

An Odyssey begins of questions not answers
circling misty doors of promise
Answers of black and white tempt the heart
memories of promised Zion

An alien in the nation
Guilt a shadow
Observed, never private
No peace in the home
all eyes watching
Never all alone
Feeling separate
No way to return
Cut ties hanging
Still moored to the child alone in the distance
Go now, find the child, alone in the distance
Go now, find the child, small child, bring him home.

Don’t climb the 12 steps to freedom, they are desire
Only way back, is down

Chase the dream
Miss the boat
let it float away
There are pathways to unearth in the water
Don’t delay

The moment, the master
Steps measured in lifetimes

Breathe the night and time can unpick the stitches
Hold the line
In clouds, the eyes are blind
Truth is the entropy
Hidden behind the flags of belief are frozen hearts

Here my child, I’ll hold you
Time brought me to you
I was there, I know
I’ll be your guide
joy is your fortune
Watch the cloud dissolve and taste your freedom

My love, I feel you
Gone is the darkness
Kiss my eyes and sleep
Our dreams are young
Vast as the universe
The only limit now is imagination
Track Name: Requiem For Belief
Requiem for Belief
Music and Lyrics – Stu Hunter

Here in the notion
The streetlights, the shimmer
Are questions, answers and rhymes

Under the surface
Distilled in the scratches
Are rippling echoes of time

The madman has a vision,
A people, who bury the flags
Round the tables, an infinite feast

Smoke from the Pyre
The leaders are singing
A requiem for belief
Track Name: MDu Moonshine
MDu Moonshine
Music and Lyrics – Stu Hunter

birds fly beneath the sea in my mind
time walks backwards and the rivers climb
there’s a feeling that tastes like wine
you’re never gonna buy it this is moonshine

I watch em come and I watch em go
swimmin up stream against the flow
they get so tired they come to blows
what’s the remedy I don’t know

gotta be an answer people say
and they look to the sky for a highway
but the show I watch you can’t pre-pay
It’s all about the interplay

birds fly beneath the sea in my mind
time walks backwards and the rivers climb
there’s a feeling that tastes like wine
you’re never gonna buy it this is moonshine

bounce a kiss off the moon
hope my dreams will take me soon
lying in the night in the mdu moonshine

I hope you got my song
I sent it with the dawn
I found it in the night in the mdu moonshine
